Internet Addiction

I recently read an article posted on CTV Ottawa’s webpage about Internet Addiction. This doesn’t surprise me. I figured it was a possability. I mean, havent we all been sucked into the Internets hours on end for no real purpose? But it is now considered a recognized condition called Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD). The article says that Internet addicts have a hard time reining in their use of the Web, and typically spend unhealthy amounts of time online, to the point that it impairs their work or family life. Denied access to computers, Web addicts may experience withdrawal symptoms including obsessive thoughts, and involuntary typing movements.

I do believe people can get sucked into spending countless hours online therefore, losing friends and being in touch with the outside world. Which is why one of icanbesafeonline’s tips include making sure to limit your time online and to go outside into the ‘real’ world.

There is nothing better than fresh air and face to face conversation – don’t forget that – and dont let your friends and family forget that. The Internet isnt your whole life, it’s a small part of your life.
